Little Lamb on James St

The hearth in the heart of Northbridge.

BBQ and hot pot all in one.

Fusion cooking media for heat on a cold evening.

Hot soup split in to flavours. Hot spicy on the left and clear soup with herbs on the right. 1hour of power walking should burn up the plates thin sliced lamb that go into the hot stock. This is then eaten with a variety of spicy sauces. Plenty of seafood such as mussels, squid, fish to go into the pot too.

Some flame grilling over hot coals. Plenty of shrimps on the BBQ. My two savvy fitness colleagues get the concept and start boiling and grilling after collecting food from great self serve platters. One has been to the gym at lunch and the other walked 4km to work. Another 4km back home before joining us at the dining table tonight.

Beer and soya bean chasers. Great to replenish the depleted muscles after a workout. Monitor the sugar load from the soya bean and carbs in the beer. The beverages are unlimited. A single entry fee is paid at the door. The food is all you can eat and drink all you can quaff.

More Grilled curry flavoured fish. Omega fatty acids for recovery. Hot coals under the food squeeze out any excess fat in the meats that we grill such as chicken wings and spiced meats. Vegans are not left out as there are sweet potato wedges, tofu, green veges and other less carnivorous foods to fuel the plant powered muscle in their system.

After about 3 beers - light - we call it a night. We walk out into the brisk night air. Could have eaten more but maybe next time. Maybe less meat and more vegetables. Don't worry about the all you can eat. Do the Últra long run, swim or cycle tomorrow.

Look at Rich Roll's plant powered muscle change in his figure from plant based nutrition.

.

Check out Rich Roll's website if you wanna be a vegan. Little Lamb but eat the veges & tofu. Body builders can still bulk up on all BBQ and seafood.

Kool Spot - A day in Broome 18th Oct

Looking for lunch on a hot day in Broome try - Kool Spot

Up at crack of dawn - 430am to get to the Qantas Terminal at the domestic airport - 5 30 am for the 710am flight to Broome.

Enough time for a 30 minute power walk around the 3 domestic airport car parks before going into departure.

After a mornings work, pop into Broome town for a quick lunch before more work and the Qantas flight out in the evening.

Hot day at 33 degrees centigrade on the tarmac coming from the cooler south of the state

Try some cool but spicy korean salad. Lots of fibre for the bowels.

If you don't want a hot meal some savoury felafel pastry to fill up for the day's work. Add carbs for the run later on in the heat.

Try some fresh mackerel with lots of omega 3 fatty acids for the heart. A little to salty for the taste but good to replace the sodium lost during the hot steamy weather. Low sodium due to lost in sweating can make you feel fatigued in the tropical (relative to Perth this morning) heat.

My colleague Pen had the giant quiche. Lots of tomatoes for potassium and electrolyte replenishment.

For drinks I had a sweet soda. That was also a sugar fix. It tasted so good on a hot day mixed with ice.. Pen had tea in a pot to go with the quiche.

After work managed to get in a 30 minute jog before going to the Broome airport. Ran along the back streets of Broome. Along a bicycle path from the primary school to Jul's place. Then hopped on the Qantas flight back home at 6 50pm. Not a fantastic training session day but it maintained the cardio for 24 hours!!

Aqua Viva Oct 2012

Acqua Viva on the Swan river

Dinner with enthralling education from Warren Olanov who hails from  New York.

The setting for dinner. Great view of the river and fast power boats moored to the jetty next to JoJo's restaurant.

Straight from work so did no get a chance for a power walk before dinner. Just some burpies ad chin ups. Not too worry as it is ride to work day tomorrow. Check it out at http://www.bwa.org.au/ or http://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/
Menu for entree and main in duo combos.

Entree of eggplant marinate in olive oil with pastry and an Italian prawn rice dish or risotto. Great for the long distance cyclist.

The wine was an Alkoomi red. The main was a combo of grilled fish with chicken breast cooked in a cheesy sauce and stuffed with mushrooms. A protein rich meal good for a couple of 40kg ( X2 of 20kg weights) bench presses in the morning.

Desert was a sample of petit fours. Light to taste and not too sweet. These tiny servings would be great for a yoga session after dinner in front of the television. Now to try to get to New York to visit Warren...

Dragon Palace Francis Street Oct 2012

Dragon Palace for lunch

Fly in fly out lunch. Quick service and hot tasty food in large Chinese restaurant. Feisty atmosphere with lots of hot steaming trays pushed by busy young waiters and waitresses.

Seated at 1210pm then out at 1255pm. A 45 minute lunch with 4 work colleagues to celebrate Tay going to Singapore for holidays. Jul & Art were there for the fun.

Maitre D was efficient and seated us in minutes.
The wine list but it was a working lunch so no alcohol. We had chinese tea 'pou lei' which was a touch strong. Tasted great with extra hot water.

Art ordered his favourite dish sweet BBQ pork rolls with fluffy pastry.

He also ordered desert at the same time. Some moist and crumble in your mouth egg tarts. Good for ballerinas' who were in between training sessions or their lunch hour.

The taro dumplings were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Good carbs for the afternoon nap or 8 storey climb at work. Avoid the lift and just walk the up the stairs.

Chive Dumplings were flavoursome with garlicky flavours.

Light on the stomach tofu steamed with mince meat and black bean sauce. Great protein for a body builder looking to reduce the carbs to improve muscle definition.

The menu with English translation.

More prawn dumplings - steamed to minimise the trans fats you could get from deep frying.

Prawn dumplings with corn to cut down on the cholesterol and kick of sweetness to improve the flavour. We need the cholesterol for brain food so keep going on eating the prawns. They are not too bad as long as you do the treadmill to music this afternoon.

What a great lunch in 45 minutes. We left just in time for me to get back to work. Art, Tay and Jul went to icey ice for desert. That is another story.

Qantas Club Changi Airport Sept 2012

An oasis in the fast lane!

The Qantas club lounge has traded places with the First class Qantas lounge at Changi airport. There is less space but it is more luxurious.

Passengers can join Qantas club or qualify to get in as Qantas gold frequent flyers. The latter is earned if you fly a couple of times a month interstate or overseas depending on the miles you fly and your status points earned.

Calm down after the longer then 5 hour flight from Australia with healthy starters.

Try a cocktail from tonic and soda water out of a Schweppes can. Add Asian style potato crisp, some greens to soak up the trans fats, grapes for vitamin C and olives for salt.

Get rehydrated after the long flight before the wines and beers.

Maybe a shower before the main meal. Tiled showers to freshen up.

Back to the food. There is a combination of warm starters. Fried rice vermicelli Singapore style, pasta with tomato and 'acar'. The latter consist of blanched vegetables with a spicy coconuty smooth sauce. Yow.. healthy with a zing!!

Then for the heavy stuff like fried chicken to go with the beer or champagne. Alcohol can dehydrate so be sure to chase it down with more still or sparkling water. Or the chilled tonic and soda water cocktail.

A sandwich before the next flight. Ham with mayonnaise gives it a nice twang.

Finally fruit to load up on fibre and vitamins. Banana and dragon fruit if you need some potassium and fibre.

More fruit to megadose on vitamins and keep away any bugs in the air. The fruit selection includes papaya, pineapple and watermelon.

All food and beverages are complimentary in the Qantas club.

Don't forget to check your email or facebook on the Apple computers in the lounge.

You can also have a shower or shave in the rooms available.

Finally to get some air and aerobic activity - do shop around and go for a walk around Changi airport - a great place to transit through. Check it out next time you fly into Singapore. http://www.changiairport.com/

There is also a gym available in Changi Airport for those in training or on the way to a half marathon or triathalon somewhere in Asia, Europe or America.

Nathan's Corner Taman Desa

Breakfast after a 50 minute walk in Tropical Kuala Lumpur

Something spicy with lots of carbs?

Avoid the caffeine in "Teh Tarik" or pulled tea. Its is condensed sweetened milk with tea, decanted multiple times between two mugs to aerate the tea. This results in head of froth that gives the tea flavour and cools it down.

Hot Thosai with coconut, lentils and spicy paste. Thosai is a rice pancake cooked crunchy on the pan side.

The taste sensation did not last too long. Don't forget to rehydrate in the hot tropical climate. At least 500mls water before the workout. Then more after the spicy breakfast.

Nathan's corner is also open for lunch.

Try the mee goreng and ikan bakar. Not bad for suburbia in Kuala Lumpur.
