I took the kids to the Singapore Zoo when we were last in Singapore. We had lunch at the Ah Meng restaurant - named after an orang hutan monkey. The kids had chicken rice but we had the Indian Food. The curry and the tandoori chicken was good and not too fatty. Nan bread was tasty. They used to have a tandoori oven on site. See http://www.zoo.com.sg/dining/ah-meng-restaurant.html
Make sure you get plenty of walking at the zoo and drink lots of water in the tropical heat. Ice cream for the children if they must.
Plenty of examples in the zoo of fast running plant eating wild life. Anecdotally some athletes eschew meat and perform well on a vegetarian diet - especially long distance athletes. Google vegetarian and fitness.
