Rana at Chelsea Markets

Italian cuisine and pasta surrounded by retail seafood.

Lots of seafood at Chelsea Market NYC but looking for something more substantial.

Try Giovanni Rana Pastificio E Cucina. Friendly and excellent service and great Italian food.

After a morning walking on the highline in the meatpacking area this is a great restaurant to restore glycogen stores with complex carbs such as pasta.

Check out the highline at http://www.thehighline.org/ for a brisk walk before lunch or dinner. Great views of NYC from a reclaimed railway line. A couple of times from end to end gives a 360 perspective of the urban architecture and burns of 2500 calories over 2 hours.

The Rana is a great place to relax after. Cosy and bustling with warmth of a friendly host of restaurant staff.

Start with delicious bread in a paper basket - dip in olive oil for polyunsaturates.

Spaghetti Bolognaise for protein and complex carbs.

Fish omega 3 fatty acids and heart protection.

Delicious Mussels for minerals and taste.

The Engine room of Rana - its kitchen - open for view by patrons.

The host also provided recipe cards to a little 11 year old girl visiting NYC for the first time on our table. This was a very nice touch.

Check out the restaurant's website at http://www.rananyc.com/ and browse through their menu and shop items. Browse the Chelsea market shops after to allow the food to digest and to avoid post meal slumber.
